- First published for piano in 1867, Arietta is the first of 66 Lyric pieces in ten books. The melancholy tune is very short, but Grieg thought enough of it to use it again in 1901 for the last Lyric Piece Efterklang (Remembrances).
Optional parts: oboe II, 2 bassoons, 2 horns timpani and percussion.
